This makes me think… about the Pascal Mystery being made present to us today…

[Paraphrasing Jesus:] “I did not wipe tears from the face of sorrow to lay sorry by. I did not touch pain with a fierce redeeming beauty to have done with it; I cannot give myself into the arms of death to cast death aside! I made all these things my own that they glory of these things should be yours, that while they remain with you, I shall remain with them.”

He has taken all those things to himself, and has changed them for us. Sorrow has not ceased to be sorrow, but it is no longer simply a punishment, it is something with its power of healing in itself, something that redeems, something that makes joy possible to men.

Christ experienced the bitterness of sorrow, living our life, that we might experience its splendor living his…

…having taken the weakness of our nature, he has made it or strength. Now, if we set out to bear one another’s burdens, we know that however heavy they are, however hard to us, Christ has already borned them, and bears them now.

The Happy Catholic concludes the Blessed, Beautiful, and Bodacious Blog Tour

And so it comes down to this… today we’ve met the goal of skimming ten themes in my new book, Blessed, Beautiful, and Bodacious: Celebrating the Gift of Catholic Womanhood, over ten days… Ten Bodacious Basics, Ten Minutes at a Time. I’ve had a blast recording the audio tour segments, and I’m very happy that there are free books in the offering at each of the blogs courtesy of my publisher, Ave Maria Press.

Here’s a recap of what this is all about:

Today the final episode of the audio tour is hosted over at The Happy Catholic, one of my favorite blog haunts over the years, created by the talented and delightful author, Julie Davis.* I’m honored that she’s doing the wrap up post today that will talk about the need for a new feminism that incorporates the Gospel of Life as it honors the dignity and gifts of women. In the end, it is we women, ourselves, who must make this our mission as we serve the Lord in whatever vocation we are called in.

If you’d like to go back and hear some of the other chapters and enter your name is a few more drawings for the free book, you’ll find the complete list here.

*Among Women, most recently welcomed Julie Davis as a guest when her 2011 book, aptly named The Happy Catholic, was released. Listen to that show here.

Spiritual Motherhood — what’s that? Here’s 5 Tips for Aspiring Spiritual Mothers on the Blog Tour

Spiritual Motherhood — what’s that? Here’s 5 Tips for Aspiring Spiritual Mothers on the Blog Tour

One of the most tenderly written blogs on faith and family life, In the Heart of My Home, by Elizabeth Foss* is host to the Ten Bodacious Basics Blog Tour today. And I couldn’t be more tickled to have Elizabeth as a hostess.

Today’s theme is spiritual motherhood, and it pairs ever so nicely with warm and wise wisdom that emanates from Elizabeth’s blog. Whether she knows it or not, she has been a model and mentor to many (including me!) over her decades-long writing career, a kind and generous spiritual mother, as well as a devoted wife and mother to a house full of children.

If you are just catching up to this blog tour, here’s an explanation of what it is all about — ten minute audio clips from the book, over ten days:

So, get on over to Elizabeth Foss’ blog to listen to today’s audio, and be sure to leave a comment for Elizabeth so you can be entered in the free drawing at her blog to win a copy of Blessed, Beautiful, and Bodacious.

*You may recall my conversation with Elizabeth Foss about the midlife years on Among Women. It was one of the most listened-to shows of 2012. Find it here.

Here’s a little introduction to the book’s blog tour: Ten Bodacious Basic… Ten Minutes at Time:

Another Cup of Coffee is, to me, one of the world’s greatest names for a blog, and I’m happy that the Blessed, Beautiful, and Bodacious blog tour is parked over there today, courtesy of Maria Morera Johnson*.

Full disclosure: Maria Johnson is my good buddy. We are writing buddies, prayer buddies, and SQPN buddies. Her holy influence really helped me get through the early rough drafts of the manuscript for this book, especially on the days when my confidence sagged, and I wanted to run from the prospect of another chapter, but instead poured another cup of coffee and got down to business.

I’m blessed to know Maria. And blessed to take the occasional road trip with her, but that’s another story. On one outing last summer, she surprised me with matching t-shirts for the book….

Which eventually led to a whole lot more swag and good clean fun.

The F.U.N. Quotient… the potty-training edition

Motherhood is an adventure like no other and life on the potty is no exception. Let us remember our sense of humor as we raise ’em and praise ’em.

A little potty humor…from the mouths of babes.

Okay, here’s one for the parents entering the gruesome world of public toilets. (And yes, I laughed. Out loud. Only because I no longer have to do this duty.)
