Among Women Espresso Shot #36: The Beatitudes, an overview

Listen to Episode 36 of Among Women “Espresso Shot” – a short strong coffee break of faith sharing and teaching.

The topic: The Beatitudes – A Snapshot of Jesus and Christian Life

In this espresso shot, I begin a series looking at the Beatitudes, as found in Matthew 5:1-12. This podcast offers a brief overview of the Beatitudes, with reflections based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 1717 and 1719.

Among Women 248: Catholic Working Mothers

Among Women 248: Catholic Working Mothers

One of the most popular topics on the Among Women podcast has been that of working mothers. In this latest episode, I welcome longtime listener and now author of The Catholic Working Mothers’ Guide to Life — Joanna Wahlund — to tackle this important subject.

This episode of Among Women examines the challenges of mothers who work either by choice or necessity. While each woman’s situation is unique, we look at how important connections to faith and family are for the mothering vocation.

Joanna Wahlund and I discuss the foundations of her book (at right), plus women saints who might be good patrons for working mothers, as well as tips for growing in prayer, discernment, and finding sisters in Christ.

And, in a departure from our usual fare, based on the news of the week, I’m dedicating our Blessed Our They segment to talk about the upcoming beatification of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.

Among Women 247: Becoming Women of the Word

Among Women 247: Becoming Women of the Word

In this new episode of Among Women, we ponder the call based on the title of Sarah Christmyer’s new book Becoming Women of the Word. It’s a wonderful conversation filled with the story of Rahab’s faith, as found in the book of Joshua. This is the kind of faith that calls us to trust in God amidst the storms of life.

Speaking of hardships, in our Blessed Are They segment, you’ll learn about the life and faith of one of the Japanese martyrs, St. Magdalene of Nagasaki.

Among Women Espresso Shot #35: Praying, Sacrificing, and Reparation

Among Women Espresso Shot #35: Praying, Sacrificing, and Reparation

Our Lady at Fatima gave a bold message of prayer and penance. But before she arrived on the scene, God sent an Angel to the children, the visionaries at Fatima. Learn the prayers that the Angel taught the children — a powerful and needed kind of intercession for the Church and the world we live in today.

In this latest Among Women Espresso shot, I focus on the prayers of the Angel at Fatima to the visionaries … because we see and experience trouble in the world, trouble in the Church. This is a deep call for Catholics to do the heaving lifting in terms of prayer, sacrifice, and reparation for the love of Jesus, for the conversions of those who are far from him, and to offer reparation for the sins and offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

(Aside: Here’s an informative video about reparation and Eucharistic devotion, including a conversation with the recently deceased, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, an expert on this subject. His book on Fatima is highly recommended by me.)

Listen to the podcast. (The prayers are written out over there too, so you can learn them.)

Among Women 244: The Power of Forgiveness

Among Women 244: The Power of Forgiveness

I’m back in the studio and Patrice Fagnant-MacArthur drops by the Among Women podcast to talk about her new book, The Power of Forgiveness. We spend time talking about forgiveness from God as it comes to us via the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, as well as talking about the graces we need to forgive others and to heal hurts.

Plus I share a brief reflection from the brilliance of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, whose feast day was this week. I hope you can catch up with me on this latest podcast.

Catching up with Among Women… Plus, explore 2 new books this summer!

Catching up with Among Women… Plus, explore 2 new books this summer!

I’m happy to share some great podcasts from conversations I’ve had in recent weeks with two wonderful authors.

In episode 242 of Among Women, I unpack “holy hacks” which not only assist us in growing in the spiritual life, but it is also the great title of a new book from my guest, Patti Maguire Armstrong, titled Holy Hacks: Everyday Ways to Live your Faith and Get to Heaven. And its one of my favorite books so far in 2019. And that’s saying something.

I also enjoy diving into some of the prayer advice from St. Bridget of Sweden. Don’t miss this episode and try a few new spiritual hacks today!

This next book is a page-turner!

Among Women 243 offers a powerful conversation with Mary Lenaburg, author of Be Brave in the Scared that details her vocation as a wife and mother, with a particular emphasis on the faith and life lessons that accompanied her 22 years as Courtney’s mother. Mary’s daughter lived most of her life with profound disabilities, but her short life made a beautifully profound impact in the lives of those who knew her.

I also spend some time unpacking some of the Bible verses that have been anchors for me in times of fear. Plus I unpack inspiration from St. Teresa of Avila and St. Catherine of Siena. Listen to AW 243 here.

Pssst! Book lovers: Both of these titles, Holy Hacks, and Be Brave in the Scared just happen to be on sale this week!

Among Women 241: A Personal Relationship with Mary

Among Women 241: A Personal Relationship with Mary

It’s May! It’s Mary’s month — and the month we celebrate mothers! This episode of Among Women has it all! I share about some of my personal history with Mary both from my book, All In, and a recent article in Catholic Digest encouraging us to develop a better relationship with Mary, our spiritual mother.

Then enjoy a wonderful conversation with my friend and prayer buddy, Maria Morera Johnson, about devotion to Mary under the title of Our Lady of Charity, the patroness of Cuba. Maria’s latest book is Our Lady of Charity. Learn about the history and the symbols related to this Cuban story of faith, family, and Mary’s particular love for each of us — it will be worth your time!

Listen to Among Women Espresso Shot 34: Flowers at the Foot of the Cross

What’s that about?

It’s this: Growing in virtue takes day-by-day effort! St. Francis de Sales’ famous work Introduction to the Devout Life has been part of my spiritual reading for a long time! This short podcast shares his advice on how our practice of virtue — for the love of Jesus — can become as “flowers at the foot of the Cross.” Ooooh! Listen here.

Among Women podcast is 10 years old!

Among Women podcast is 10 years old!

Ten years ago, this podcast — and podcasts in general — was a grand experiment… A little apostolate that I fit in on nights and weekends. It still is. I’ve had some setbacks in recent months with time and equipment. But this 30-minute podcast is a look back at some of the most popular podcasts over the past decade, and the many good people who have shared their Catholic faith with our listeners in extraordinary ways.
